"easy to use and to understand"
"TOME could be the gateway game you've been waiting for"

GatherYourParty says:

"What Maj’Eyal ultimately accomplishes may be seen as an anathema to its genre. Most gamers are wary of their favorite genre being stripped of its originality and mass marketed. I think it’s fair to say that Maj’Eyal has found quite possibly the happiest medium in gaming."

Review This Game

This a very long rogue-like, recommended only for those who love this genre. The visuals are not very good, but the gameplay mor...e than makes up for it. There's a huge amount of content and it takes a lot of investment on your part to actually finish the game since it is so long and can become very hard very fast since it is easy to improperly level your character. Level variety is a little weak, but the dungeons are randomized if that helps any. This game is probably not the best choice for people new to this genre because it can be quite difficult.

Tales of Maj' Eyal (ToME), which has been voted roguelike of the year on more than one occasion, promises a modern roguelike exp...erience, one which attempts to do away with the conventions of its predecessors. It promises, and -for the most part- it delivers. I'm going to assume most roguelike fans reading this have already played ToME, since it is so well-known. For the aspiring roguelike player though, it's a great game to start. When it comes to death in-game, ToME offers three different settings; infinite lives, earn lives by reaching milestone levels, or the genre classic, permadeath. Infinite lives can be a good way for a new player to get their feet wet before they attempt a permadeath run, because the game is quite unforgiving. I definitely recommend this to fans of the genre looking for a complex and up-to-date roguelike to play. For people that are unfamiliar with its kind, ToME may look intimidating with all the different statistics and pieces of equipment your character has to deal with, but that's not something you need to worry too much about, since you will learn as you play. That is the joy of roguelikes.

This game is a full rogue like game with all the variety and complexity there can be. Static world map is mixed with random dung...eons. The wide range of classes, statistics, magics, traits, etc makes the game incredible flexible in terms of adapting your gameplay and adds a lot of replay value. The GUI as it is , it's ok, but it gets better if you configure it to a more minimalistic one. Also, the different game modes can be used for an easier introduction to the rogue like gameplay It can be played with the keyboard almost all alone, this is good because rogue like are perfect for laptops on the run
