Review This Game

So you may have seen this game around and noticed the particular art style; everything is made out of paper, so it's like you're... playing a comic book. It certainly helps it stand out among tons of pixel art games. Is it good beyond just looking cool, though? I think so. Stick it to the Man stars Ray, an everyman tester for construction helmets who has his life turned upside down when a military experiment, a captured brain slug, drops down on his head and makes it its home. This has certain benefits - the ability to read minds and a prehensile psychic arm - and certain downsides - being thrust into a conspiracy lead by the enigmatic The Man. Gameplay wise, it's a 2D platformer that has you traveling from right to lift and traversing terrain. Simple enough, but it's also blended with adventure game puzzles. You'll come across certain people with Stickers in their thoughts that you can rip out with your arm, and stick elsewhere to solve people's troubles and progress. The solutions usually pretty clear, but the problem can be finding where the stickers are. Most levels have The Man's agents in them, though, requiring stealth sections, since Ray can't really fight. These get kind of annoying by the time you're finished the game, and if it was longer than it is, about six or seven hours, I think I would have really started to hate them. The real appeal to the game is the writing, though: plenty of jokes and wit from every character you come across. The quality in voice acting differs, but most are fine. So all in all, Stick it to the Man is a brief, enjoyable indie game. It's certainly worth the asking price, but if you don't enjoy adventure game stuff, maybe give it a pass.
