I think Nihilumbra kinda went under the radar for pretty much anyone or maybe I wasn't paying enough attention to the news. Nihi...lumbra is a puzzle platformer with a very unique looking to it, you start the game being born in The Void and after you escape you end up on a strange world where The Void sends his creatures and it's coming to get you. The plot of this game along with a mindblowing soundtrack is what make them one of the best puzzle platformers of this year. According to the narrator, which identity remains a secret, The Void is one and you can't simply escape the void, he needs you in order to become one and that's why he's after you. [MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM NOW ON] Your journey is divided in various environments ,you'll travel to cold montains, a desert, a forest, volcanic fields and a city. Each of this places will great you an unique power which comes into place in the form of a colour and you can use them by clicking and dragging the mouse cursor on any surface, the montains grant you the blue colour which when used on any surface will make that surface slippery which will alow you to run or slide faster, the forest will grant you the green colour which if you jump on it it grants you a huge jump boost and sometimes is used for changing enemy projectiles course, in the desert you'll gain access to the brown colour which will grant you the power to slow things down or making you walk stealthly and even get enemies trapped in corners, the volcanic fields of course will grant you the red colour which when an enemy steps on it (including yourself) it will start burning and this is the first time you can actually kill an enemy by yourself and last but by no means least, the city which takes a huge role on the story grants you the colour yellow which represents electricity. During your journey you'll not only use the last power you've earned but you'll also need to remember what you've learned before. When you step into the Cold Montains you feel that you're in a different place from the void, it's cold. When you go into the forest you'll start to notice that everything in it is alive, the trees, the plants, and that starts to make you feel alive in some way, because before you were nothing, you were void. When you go to the Desert you immediately notice it's warmer there than the previous two locations and you start to wonder if you're actually starting to have "something" inside of you. After that comes the volcanic fields in which you feel it's even hotter than the desert and you realize your journey started cold, then warm and now hot and that someone makes you think that you're actually becoming "something". And last, the city, which was once inhabited by someone, there you'll start wondering if those people were actually the ones that doomed this world and not yourself, since the void has been consuming everything while it's after you, the forest, the montains, the volcanos, the desert, everything. And so you realize that youre death is inevitable, it wouldn't matter if you kept running, even though you wanted to be alive, there's no life without death and so you let yourself be consumed by the void but... the void rejects you because throughtout your journey you've consumed the colours and each one of the elements and you've become alive, "the void is nothing and there's nothing in you". And so you become free... but the game doesn't end here. After this end you'll unlock "The Void Mode" which is basicly you fighting off the void that has consumed the world in order to clean your conscience. Nihilumbra is certainly not a game for everyone, but if you enjoy a great story, very emotional and meaningful then my friend, this game is certainly for you. One of the best indie puzzler platformers I've ever played. I recommend it 100%, please buy it because I don't think it got the attention it deserved.
