Game Summary

You have torn down the magical barrier and released the prisoners of the Mine Valley. Now the former criminals of the forests and mountains are causing trouble around the capital of Khorinis. The town militia is powerless due to their low amount of force – outside of the town, everyone is helpless against the attacks of the bandits.

In the meanwhile, however, Xardas the Magician is preparing you to face a much larger threat: The dragons have been summoned to destroy humanity with their armies. And only the “Eye of Inoo”, an ancient divine artifact, can help you stop them...

With the Add-on “Night of the Raven” the fight for the island around Khorinis will be much harder. The band of the evil is searching in the “Ruins of Time” for a new weapon which will decide the war between good and evil. Your mission: Go into the forgotten valley and find the weapon before they do…

The fight for the island of Khorinis will become the fight between the gods for the human race… And you can choose your role in this story by yourself.

For me personally, Gothic 2 is one of the best RPGs of all times. I never experienced a gameworld so believably crafted with suc...h an interactivity. People react on your actions in proper ways - if you enter a stranger's house, he'll ask you to leave - if you don't do that, he'll draw his weapon to threaten you and finally attack you. If you steal, you have to be sure nobody watches you, as they'll attack you immediately. For your crimes, you'll get punished by the "law" (e.g.: the city guards and paladins) and have to pay a fee. Animals and monsters have their own reactions too: If you run into a wild animal, it'll not attack you instantly, but try to threaten you away. If you don't, they'll attack. They even attack other animals (I cannot describe the great feeling, when I ran into a pack of wolves hunting other animals). The whole reactions system is the best I know. Every single person in this game has his/her own daily schedule (The only game I know that in a similar perfection is Ultima VII): They work in the day, talk in breaks, eat and drink in the evening and eventually go home to get their sleep. While the gameworld is surely big enough, it's not as large as the Elder Scrolls-games. But every single corner holds his secrets. If you're out for a stroll in the woods, there are many interesting exploration possibilities - there are caves, hidden chests, or maybe you'll run into a camp of bandits. For the story itself: It's well crafted, features many interesting and remarkable NPCs and you'll have to do your quests in two fairly different worlds (the desolated mining valley and the beautiful landscape around the city of Khorinis). In the course of your playthrough, you'll have to decide which of the three parties you'll support: there are the firemages (an old order of monastic mages, able to unleash terrible destruction), the king's paladins (mighty warriors and users of powerful runes) and the dragon hunters (the best warriors around). You'll have different quest's and people will adress you differently according to your title sometimes. All in all, Gothic two offers so much it puts most "modern" games to shame. For me it's the most complex simulation of a medieval world, only on par with Ultima VII. Highly recommended!

One of the greatest open world RPG's in existence. While it isn't quite up to the level of the Elder Scrolls, series, this game ...is fantastic. There's multiple factions to join, a ridiculous amount of quests, a vast world to freely explore, and it has a crafting system. As if the game wasn't already long enough, the expansion pack adds even more hours of playtime. The controls are very good. The graphics are starting to show their age, but the gameplay more than makes up for it. If you love RPG's and the Elder Scrolls, the Gothic franchise is not to be missed.

Gothic II is the RPG you ever wanted to play. Open game world, three factions to join, loads of crafting if you fancy, and amazi...ng music. With "Night of the Raven" addon being integrated into the game the story is even more rich and Gothic II provides more hours of gameplay. Controls have been tweaked and made more clear/useable than in Gothic. Go and explore, there is a huge world waiting for you! Highly recommended.
